Glory, glory hallelujah!

Sunday, August 15, 2010

Perth Glory arrive home this afternoon exuberant after their 2-nil win against Melbourne Victory. The game marks their first ever Hyundai A-League win against the Melbourne outfit on Victorian soil.

The club seems delighted, describing it as one of their biggest victories - which is saying a lot, having won two Championships and three Premierships in the now defunct NSL. Perhaps in all the furore of winning in Melbourne the club momentarily forgot these achievements.

The goals, the first by Harnwell in the 23rd minute and the second by Sterjovski on 49 minutes, are a good sign for the Glory but a warning for other clubs. Perth will be title contenders this season; Finally.

"We were unlucky last week, we probably should have won that game and to come away here against Melbourne Victory, who are probably one of the best teams in the league, is a big confidence boost," declared Sterjovski after the game.

Perth will now face Newcastle Jets at NIB Stadium in what will be an interesting match, testing the evenness of the competition. While the Glory now seem to be the early front-runners, Newcastle have yet to find their feet, with draws in both opening encounters, and are not favored by many to challenge for a top six berth.
