Asian Champions League 2011 draw

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

A-League teams have had a mixed night at the draw of the Asian Champions League draw for the 2011 installment of the competition.

Last season's A-League runner up Melbourne Victory have been slotted into group E with J-League runner up Gamba Osaka, who the Victory were grouped with in their last venture into Asia. Chinese Super League runners up Tianjin Teda and K-League runners up Jeju United also feature in what could be classed as the 'runners up' group. Did I say 'runners up' enough?

A-League Champions Sydney FC have faired slightly better, drawing Group H with opponents including Chinese Super Leagues Shanghai Shenhua, Korean FA Cup winners Suwon Samsung Bluewings and the last place filled by the winner of the Japan Emperor's Cup (which at the moment is at the quarter final stage, teams still vying for the cup are Kashima Antlers, Nagoya Grampus, Avispa Fukuoka, F.C. Tokyo, Montedio Yamagat, Shimizu S-Pulse, Gamba Osaka and Urawa Red Diamonds).
