W-League: Adelaide United 0-4 Sydney FC

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Basically top against last placed on the ladder. Adelaide United kicked off and of course kicked the ball straight to the opposition? It was clear from the outset that his game was going to hold very little in surprises.

Twenty five minutes in and Teigan Allen layed a ball back to Caitlin Foord who then swung the ball into the 18yd box to find the very safe head of Leena Khamis scoring the first goal.

In the 45th minute Tegan Allen once again crossed the ball right across the face of goal and for all money it looked likely to go over the bye line. Then somehow Leena Khamis found the ball with her head again (Leena I’m sure could have had a career as an acrobat ) nodding the ball back across the face of the goal finding her forward team-mate Kyah Simon to head the ball home for Sydney’s second.

With Adelaide knowing they were totally out classed they resorted to the typical play of trying to be tough and take players out. This led to a free kick in the 53rd minute and a quick thinking Sydney FC simply played the ball forward without delay to Kylie Ledbrooke who showed great technique to pump her shot to the near post top corner.

The 77th minute found the well skilled Kyah Simon go around her defender and place a nice shot to the far post for her second goal and Sydney’s fourth. 4-0 victory to Sydney.

Sydney plays a diamond in the midfield which can be narrow but what they have is great wing defenders who move forward and create the width for the enterprising blues. Best for Sydney was wing defenders Caitlin Foord and Lydia Vandenbergh as well as Teresa Polias and the tough Renee Rollason in the midfield.

For Adelaide this could be their last year in the W-League and best for them was the reserve goal keeper Kristi Harvey who did a great job guarding the nets. A lesser goal keeper and Adelaide should have been 8 nil down. Victoria Balomenos and Katrina Gorry toiled hard.
