Gold Coast uninspiring in lackluster draw

Gold Coast United and Perth Glory have played out a scoreless draw at Skilled Park last night, both teams had their chances but failed to convert in front of only 2,931 spectators.

In a physical match that saw four yellow cards and 17 free kicks, Perth left with a point as the Gold Coast were left seething when a Bruce Djite goal was disallowed.

One challenge in particular between the Glory's Adriano Pellegrino and United's Bas van den Brink will most likely receive further attention in the coming days.

A melee formed around the two players whilst Pellegrino shouted at van den Brink who was lying on the ground.

van den Brink then jumped up as if unconcerned with the injury he'd clearly been feigning.

Unfortunately, this was a highlight in a match that contained some strong scoring opportunities.

Djite was denied after the linesman ruled the ball had gone past the by-line before it was crossed for him to put in goal.

It was a borderline call, however, upon review, it was clear the linesman had made the wrong decision.

No matter how uninspiring the match appeared, it was almost fitting for it to end in a draw. Both sides lacked any finishing panache, and left themselves open to future opponents.

Djite however, looked the most likely, coming close two separate occasions in the second half.

After only gaining a point, Gold Coast failed to climb into the top two.

It's fair to say they missed Jason Culina (national duty) and Michael Thwaite (suspension), however, United don't quite have the same strike power as the teams above them on the ladder.

United will get their chance to prove any doubters wrong next week when they face Brisbane, followed by four straight home games.

As for Perth, their season continues to hang by a thread.
