Gold Coast snatch draw from desperate Heart

Gold Coast United have snatched a draw from the Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park after Bruce Djite equalised what was becoming a lopsided encounter.

Djite stood up defender Michael Marrone before threading the needle into the bottom left hand corner of the goal, gaining a deflection along the way to further jinx goalkeeper Clint Bolton.

Gold Coast had their backs to the wall for the majority of the match as a desperate Melbourne Heart searched for the three points they so dearly need in order climb into the top six.

Melbourne's enthusiasm was evident as they controlled the match with pin point accurate passing and an intensity which we've seldom seen from the A-league newcomers.

Gerald Sibon's deft header set Alex Terra off into the danger zone to open the scoring for the evening.

Terra's energy was evident throughout the match, particularly in the 74th minute when 'keeper Glen Moss narrowly saved a scissor kick from the stylish striker.

Both sides had their chances in the second half, but lacked the finishing edge required to put the other away.

Both keeper's were exceptional, particularly Clint Bolton who defused a barrage of shots in the final stages of injury time.

The Gold Coast can be content with a draw, especially when they appeared to be outgunned for a good portion of the match.

The only blight on their performance was an injury to Bruce Djite, who appeared to be in a fair amount of distress with a knee injury.


The draw between the Heart and Gold Coast has set up a blockbuster between the Gold Coast and Newcastle in which the gates have been thrown open to the public.

Newcastle have a game up their sleeve over the Heart however they also have a tough run into the finals.

This is also the case for the Heart, who play cross town rivals the Victory next week in what is sure to be one of the biggest A-League crowds of the season.
