My secret addiction: Kimon Taliadoros

Thursday, March 03, 2011

Okay, I’m going to put it out there... I am a bit ashamed, but hey why be in denial all your life? Here goes!! You ready for it? Umm, okay... I have an infatuated addition for Kimon Taliadoros!

What can I say? Maybe it’s not healthy? Maybe I should not even be admitting this, especially on the internet? I don’t know? But I can’t hide it anymore, I need to come clean! I need to tell someone, everyone! It’s not the look of Kimon, though I’m sure his missus thinks he is hot. Or the way he smells or even his touch when he shakes my hand or slaps me on the back. I’m addicted to the SBS analyst’s 'honey sweetened South African accented voice'.

It melts me every time; my eyes glaze over and I hang on every rounded treacly vowel. If the truth be known I don’t even care what he says! In fact he could say anything – Australian football is hopeless, Australia will never win a World Cup, reveal he is really the love child of Les Murray or even claim New Zealanders are better footballers than Australians!

I just don’t 'care' just as long as he 'speaks'.

My kids already know of this addition; whenever Kimon is on The World Game I give a little girly shriek and hastily tell the kids to “Shut-up! Shut-up! It’s Kimon!”. They are unsure of their father now-a-days, and they do hold some concerns and reservations.

When I first revealed my addiction to Kimon a few years back, he took it in his stride. We even still had lunch together afterwards, although there may have been a few pregnant pauses between the cocktail prawns and oysters. So maybe I’m not the first to reveal my addition after all, and perhaps not even the last!!

All I can say is may the luscious tones of the “sweetest voice on Australian television” continue and the treasured aromatic vocal cords penetrate all our aural openings.

Kimon is an accomplished football player and former Socceroo. Born in Durban South Africa, Kimon came to Australia at a young age eventually making nine appearances for the Socceroo’s. He played in the former National Soccer League for South Melbourne (VIC), Marconi (NSW), Sydney Olympic (NSW), Collingwood (VIC) and Parramatta Power (NSW) twice featuring in Championship winning teams.

A prolific goal-scorer in his playing days he was awarded the Golden Boot in the NSL in 1992. An intelligent and articulated man Kimon holds an MBA (Finance & Marketing), Graduate Certificate (Sports Management) and Bachelor Business (Accounting).
He was also the Inaugural CEO and Life Member of the PFA (Professional Footballers Australia) and had planned planned to run for President of Football NSW until an intervention by FFA cancelled the AGM and established an interim board.
