ECU Joondalup overcame Bayswater 3-2 in a thrilling contest at Frank Drago Reserve. The first chance of the match fell to Bayswater captain Damien Catalano, who forced a decent save from ECU keeper Andy Banks. After an impressive start it appeared to be a matter of time before the home side took the lead. Instead it was ECU who struck first with midfielder John Higgins bending a free kick into the top corner. ECU would extend their lead through Ian McMurray before being reduced to ten men after Ryan McDarby was shown a straight red card for an over the top tackle. In spite of this the away side made it 3-0 through a John Thornley penalty. Bayswater striker Gustavo Marulanda reduced the margin in the 77th minute. He added a second in the 81st to set up a grand stand finish but ECU hung on to take all three points. Watch the match highlights below courtesy of Football West TV.



Balcatta SC maintained their position at the top of the table after a hard fought win over Floreat Athena at Grindleford Reserve. Liam Boland missed a glorious opportunity for Athena in the third minute, firing wide when one on one with Balcatta keeper Lewis Italiano. Instead it was the home side that opened the scoring through Daniel Micevski. It looked like the one goal would be enough until Floreat substitute Phil Arnold levelled the scores in the 80th minute. Arnold should have put Floreat ahead moments later but opted to pass when it surely would’ve been easier to score. He would regret that missed opportunity as Balcatta scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 84th minute, Ashley Rosindale reacting first after Floreat keeper Alex Dunn failed to hold on to a shot from Mustafa Atak. Stirling Lions were held to a 0-0 draw against Western Knights as sweltering heat and wasteful finishing took its toll on the home side. The Lions dominated but failed to find a way past Frazer Siddall in the Knights’ goal. It was very much a case of two points dropped for Stirling, who will need to find a way to convert their positive play into something tangible if they want to make an impact this season.


Inglewood United secured an impressive 3-1 win over Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve. Ryan Pearson gave Sorrento the lead in the 21st minute, slotting home after a mistake from Inglewood defender Darko Ilomanoski. Sorrento took their lead into the break, but lost it two minutes after the restart. Ndumba Makeche put in a cross from the left which Rory Grant put away. The impressive Makeche gave the away side the lead in the 61st minute with a 25 yard rocket that gave Sorrento keeper Curtis Aspden no chance. The Gulls’ problems intensified when Cameron Yorke was given his marching orders after bringing down Makeche on the edge of the area. Paul Dugdale put the gloss on the score line in the 81st minute, firing home from 18 yards. From there, Sorrento had no way back.


Armadale secured a hard fought 1-0 win over Mandurah at Alfred Skeet Reserve courtesy of a Jason Goodwin strike. Referee Tim Mihevc issued two red cards, one for each side. The first was issued to Mandurah’s Jeff Bright, who received two yellow cards in 28 minutes. The second saw Warren Beattie (not that Warren Beattie) given a straight red for a shocking tackle on Mandurah’s Jake Loretto. The home side were the dominant force throughout, but it took until the 81st minute for them to finally make the breakthrough, with Jason Goodwin getting on the end of a Marlon Ramirez cross. Spurred on by the concession of the goal Mandurah pressed but it was too little too late and Armadale held on to claim the win.


Perth SC recorded a 2-0 win over the National Training Centre (NTC) . David Onoforo opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a penalty. NTC pushed for an equaliser, but Jason Dos Santos made it two in the 77th minute, firing home through a sea of bodies after NTC keeper Tim Doyle fumbled a free kick. NTC fixtures are not contested for points and therefore the results are not tabulated on the table.
