Southern Cross United withdraw from QSL

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

The Hyundai Queensland State League has been rocked by the unfortunate news that Southern Cross United have been forced to withdraw from the competition.

The decision, made by both Football Queensland and Southern Cross United, is a direct result of the devastation caused by the 2011 Queensland floods.

Southern Cross United President, Brett Travis, explained the club's reason for withdrawing,

“The withdrawal is disappointing to the team and coaching staff but having several key sponsors inundated during the recent floods, it is impossible for them to honour their commitments to us, and our hope for them is a speedy recovery in these difficult times,” he said.

Despite the senior team's omission from the QSL, United's Youth team will still compete in the Hyundai Queensland State Youth League.
