WA 'All Flags' State League: Round Eleven

Monday, May 09, 2011

Inglewood United 7-4 Cockburn City

Inglewood United defeated struggling Cockburn City in an eleven goal thriller at 6PR Stadium. Cockburn were two goals to the good after the first forty five minutes thanks to Rory Feely and Michael Grigo, but were overwhelmed by the rampant home side in the second half, with Inglewood scoring seven times and Cockburn a further two. Ryan Clarke kicked things off for Inglewood, while Adrian Caceres added a second and Rory Grant a third. Caceres scored his second and Inglewood’s fourth, before Johny Mirco struck in reply for Cockburn. Darko Illamonoski scored Inglewood’s fifth, Rory Grant their sixth. Feely struck again for Cockburn, then Grant completed his hattrick in scoring Inglewood’s seventh. Chaotic to say the least.

Armadale 1-2 Sorrento

Sorrento continued their fine run of form, beating Armadale 2-1 at Alfred Skeet Reserve. It was a bad tempered match, both sides finishing with ten men and both on the end of some controversial refereeing decisions. Sorrento took a 29th minute lead after the unfortunate(ly named) Warren Beattie headed into his own net. Ross Diamond levelled for the home side after a goalmouth scramble in which Sorrento 'keeper Curtis Aspden looked to have been impeded by Anthony Campbell. Ryan Pearson scored the decisive goal in the 62nd minute, lashing the ball past Neil Young into the Armadale goal. Both Pearson and Diamond received red cards in the latter stages.

Bayswater City 0-1 Western Knights

Western Knights got back to winning ways, prevailing 1-0 over Bayswater City at Frank Drago Reserve. Western Knights were the better side throughout, but were made to work hard for the three points by a spirited home side. In the end, it was Stuart Montgomery’s penalty that settled it after Joseph Sieh was penalised for handling following Simon Versaico’s flick on. A much needed win for Knights, who’d lost their previous two games and conceding ten goals in the process.

ECU Joondalup 3-2 Floreat Athena

ECU Joondalup finally dusted off their scoring boots to defeat Floreat Athena 3-2 at ECU Joondalup Stadium A. Charlie Comyn-Platt gave the home side an 18th minute lead which was cancelled out by Callum O’Connell eight minutes before half time. Ross Anderson put the home side ahead and John Stynes made it three shortly after coming on as a substitute. James Isaia pulled one back for Athena, who thought they’d snatched a point late on, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

Perth SC 1-4 Balcatta

A top of the table clash produced a big shock as a ten man Balcatta comprehensively beat second placed Perth SC 4-1 at Dorrien Gardens. The win extends Balcatta’s lead at the top of the table to five points, and leaves onlookers wondering who will be able to derail the Balcatta freight train that looks like rolling on all the way to Premiership glory.

Jason Barrera gave Balcatta an early lead, which they threatened to build upon for the remainder of the second half. Perth should’ve been down to ten men after 'keeper Devon Spence came hurtling out of his area and cleaned up Ashley Rosindale. He was shown only yellow. Balcatta extended their lead in the 40th minute, Steven Burton first missing from the spot then scoring from the retake after referee David Costello adjudged Spence to have come off his line. Perth gave themselves a lifeline on the stroke of half time with Onoforo finishing well after Italiano failed to hold a shot from Greg Sharland.

Jovo Pavlovic saw red for Balcatta twenty minutes into the second half, and it looked like Perth might push on. Instead it was Balcatta that hit next, Burton doing brilliantly to set up Daniel Micevski. Burton scored his second in the 81st minute to wrap up the points and the Man of the Match Award.

Stirling Lions 3-0 NTC

Elsewhere Stirling Lions defeated NTC 3-0. Dean Evans and Anthony Skorich netted for the home side, and NTC put one through their own net to complete a miserable afternoon for the youngsters. NTC results are not contested for points, therefore their results are not included on the table.
