NNSW: Broadmeadow continue their Magic

South Cardiff FC 0 - 1 Edgeworth FC

Bottom of the table Edgeworth FC upset South Cardiff 1-0 at Ulinga Park thanks to a late penalty from Joel Wood. Jacob Pepper was brought down in the box with just minutes remaining to hand Edgeworth their first victory since Round 1 this year.

The first half only produced one genuine opportunity when they forced a brilliant reflex save from South Cardiff keeper Jordan Griffiths to keep scores even.

In the second period South Cardiff took control of the game creating numerous opportunities, but were left to rue those missed chances.

South Cardiff’s wide attacking midfielder Bray Smith troubled the Edgeworth defence with his pace throughout the half and was the main attacking threat for his team.

Some sloppy defending from Edgeworth gifted South Cardiff a brilliant chance just ten minutes after half time. Jarryd Johnson was gifted possession just outside the box, but he could only fire his shot narrowly over the cross bar.

Johnson had another chance to break the deadlock, but was denied by a brilliant save by Edgeworth goalkeeper Ben Smith.

In a great spell of dominance South Cardiff were left frustrating as they were wasteful in front of goal.

Against the run of play Edgeworth were awarded an 88th minute penalty which was calmly converted to reward Edgeworth for the battling display.

West Wallsend 0 - 4 Broadmeadow Magic FC

Broadmeadow Magic FC produced another breathtaking display to extend their lead at the top of the table with a 4-0 victory of West Wallsend at Varley Park.

The Magic took the lead after 20 minutes when Josh Piddington headed the ball home from a corner.

However the first half was a tight affair. Wet conditions made it difficult for both sides as the teams battled it out on the waterlogged pitch.

Despite the tense affair in the first half Broadmeadow took completer control of the second period as they created a wave of opportunities.

Returning from an ankle injury striker Haynes found the back of the net twice with a looping header and then finishing from a coner with twenty minutes remaining. Both strikes left West Wallsend goalkeeper with no chance.

Shane Paul then added a fourth with easily the best strike of the game. Paul gathered the ball from 18-yards out before unleashing a powerful drive which rocketed into the top corner.

Despite the poor conditions the Magic once again showed why they are the team to beat this coming season.

Hamilton Olympic FC 0 - 0 Valentine Phoenix FC

Hamilton Olympic and Valentine Phoenix played out a goalless draw at Darling Street Oval on Sunday.

Both the Phoenix and Hamilton had numerous opportunities to open the scoring, but neither side could find the back of the net.

The scoreless draw was not a surprise to many with the defence being the key to both sides success this season. Valentine haven’t conceded in their last three matches whilst Hamilton kept their second clean sheet in as many matches.

Both sides face tough opposition next week as Hamilton face league leaders Broadmeadow Magic and Valentine meet second placed Weston Workers Bears.
