NNSW: Broadmeadow thrash Weston Workers

The NBN State Leagues top of the table clash failed to live up to expectations as Broadmeadow showed their dominance to easily account for the Weston Workers. Elsewhere Edgeworth upset Lake Macquarie, South Cardiff came from behind to beat Hamilton Olympic, and West Wallsend and Valentine Phoenix's fixture was called off due to wet weather.

High flying Broadmeadow Magic continued their stellar start to the season with a damaging 4-1 defeat of the Weston Workers at Thomas and Coffee Park.

The top of the table clash failed to live up to expectations of a tense and tight encounter as the Magic scored three goals before half time.

Peter Haynes was the Magic’s standout throughout the match as he netted a hat-trick and provided an assist in his man of the match performance. The former Newcastle Jets striker opened the scoring after just ten minutes from the penalty spot when John Bennis was fouled inside the box.

Fifteen minutes later Chris Berlin embarked on a fantastic run down the right flank before delivering a cross to the back post where Haynes was on hand to volley home to double Broadmeadows advantage.

Just before half time Haynes turned provider as s skilful one-two allowed Andrew Hoole to gather the ball and give the Magic a three goal advantage at the break.

Broadmeadow took the foot off the pedal in the second period, but Haynes was still able to complete his treble when he collected a Luke Virgili lofted through-ball and beat the keeper with a calm finish.

The win moved Magic to 27 points, seven clear of Weston with 10 games remaining.

Hamilton Olympic 2 South Cardiff 3

Darling St Oval was the host of a thrilling game as Hamilton Olympic threw away a 2-0 lead to go down 3-2 to South Cardiff.

It was a wasted opportunity for the Olympic as three points would of seen them move to second on the ladder.

Hamilton raced to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half thanks to a brace by John Majurovski. Hamilton were dominating proceedings and had South Cardiff under pressure for the majority of the first half. However, against the run of play a 20 yard screamer by Daniel Johnson got his side back in to the match when his strike rocketed into the bottom corner.

The turning point in the game came when Olympic midfielder, Harry James, when sent off after he received a second yellow card just minutes into the second half.

With a man advantage South Cardiff gained control of the match and Dino Fajkovic, a former Hamilton Olympic player, returned to his former club and scored two goals late in second half to secure three points for South Cardiff.

Lake Macquarie City FC 1 Edgeworth FC 2

Edgeworth scored the upset of the round with a 2-1 defeat of Lake Macquarie at Macquarie Field on Sunday.

The win is Edgeworth’s second consecutive win which moves the off the bottom of the ladder.

Edgeworth showed their fighting spirit after going into the halftime break 1-0 down against a talented Lake Macquarie side.

Former Central Coast Mariner Andre Grumprecht opened the scoring for Lakes, but the match would turn sour for Lake Macquarie were forced to play the entire second half with a man down.

Edgeworth then dominated the second half putting away two goals and also missing a host of chance which could have put the result beyond doubt.

Blake Glennis scored on his debut for Edgeworth and Joel Wood scored the winner to help his side gain three points to get their season back on track.
