Inglewood United was held to a 0-0 draw at home to Sorrento. The Gulls looked strong early on and were unlucky not to go ahead after a Ryan Pearson effort skimmed wide in the 18th minute. The game was turned on its head in the 31st minute with Sorrento defender Danny Cain sent off by referee Josh Mihevc after a foul on Milan Bogunovic. Both sides missed chances until the final minute saw Inglewood spurn the opportunity to win it. Some good lead up play from Ndumba Makeche saw Adrian Caceres’ shot turned past the post. The result leaves both sides separated only by a point and in strong contention for finals berths.
ECU Joondalup 0-0 Bayswater City
Bayswater City secured a second consecutive victory with a 2-0 win at ECU Joondalup. The Premier League’s leading goalscorer Gustavo Marulanda netted penalties in the 16th and 19th minute to secure the three points. The first penalty resulted after a foul on Gavin Knight, with Marulanda smashing his spot kick into the roof of the net. The second penalty came after a poor backpass from Marc Rodgers resulted in goalkeeper Andy Banks fouling Bryan McKeown. It was a mirror image of Marulanda’s first kick. It takes the Colombian’s goal tally to 13 for the season. The result means Bayswater join ECU on 20 points with both sides three point off the fifth and final playoff place.
Mandurah City 1-2 Armadale
Armadale triumphed 2-1 away at Mandurah in a relegation six pointer at Hyundai Stadium. It was a passionate affair as both sides had a man sent off late in the game. James Robinson continued his incredible form by opening the scoring for Armadale in the 7th minute. Tom Straker equalised for Mandurah in the 20th minute but Matt Barlow restored Armadale’s advantage in the 35th minute. Armadale had chances to finish Mandurah off but couldn’t convert. After a tackle from Straker on Robinson in the 81st minute the pair were involved in a melee and both were shown red cards. Mandurah pushed hard for an equaliser from there but couldn’t get the vital point. The result leaves Armadale six points clear of Mandurah who occupy the second and final relegation spot.
Western Knights 1-3 Stirling Lions
Stirling Lions secured their third victory in a row after an impressive 3-1 win over the Western Knights at Nash Field. After both sides had chances in the early stages, Bobby Wilson opened the scoring for the Lions in the 11th minute with a header. In the 21st minute Anthony Skorich headed in a Dean Evans corner to double the advantage. Jamie Watt scored a spectacular goal in the 49th minute that saw the day get worse for the Knights. Stuart Ferguson scored a consolation for the Knights in the 52nd minute in a game that ended with seven bookings. The result moves Stirling into the top five for the first time for a while and was new coach Doug Hesketh’s second win in two games. The Knights grip on third position is weakened.
Floreat Athena 0-1 Balcatta
Balcatta returned to winning ways by defeating Floreat Athena 1-0 at E & D Litis Stadium. Daniel Niederberger headed the only goal of the game in the 29th minute from a corner. Both sides had several chances throughout the game in what was a very entertaining contest. The match also saw several tough challenges late in the match as the teams looked to get the result they desired. It means Balcatta open up an eight point break at the top but have played two matches more, while Floreat remain in sixth position and in the hunt for the finals.
Perth SC 2-1 NTC
Perth SC defeated the NTC 2-1 at Dorrien Gardens. NTC matches are not contested for points, therefore their results are not tabulated.
