Pine Hills miss out on maiden victory for 2011.

Bottom placed side Pine Hills failed yet again to secure a maiden win for the 2011 Brisbane Premier League season after a late equaliser from the University of Queensland saw both sides having to settle for a point.

The result sees Pine Hills continue their unenviable streak of 10 months without a league football win and further cements the likelihood of relegation.

UQ will be disappointed with their performance as well as the result; with the battle for top six spots intensifying it was a must win match for the Uni boys.

Continuing a recent trend of coming out of the blocks fast, Pine Hills hit the back of the net in just under three minutes courtesy of Zac Tully and some woeful UQ defence to see Hills take a 1-0 lead.

However the goal was about all Pine Hills fans had to cheer about in the first half with UQ controlling the majority of possession and creating a number of quality opportunities.

UQ went within inches of equalizing in the 35th minute when Ryan Solter beat the keeper with some skillful dribbling; however his shot was deflected wide by a courageous effort from Pine Hills defender Thomas Hallt ensuring his side maintained their narrow one goal lead at the break.

Unfortunately for fans of both sides the second half opened with UQ and Pine Hills struggling to maintain possession for more than a few passes.

UQ slowly got their game back together as the half progressed and began to capitalise on the poor decision making of their opponents, forcing Pine Hills into playing long balls out of defence every time they had possession.

By the 60th minute Pine Hills looked out on their feet in defence and it didn’t take long for the Students to pounce, Ben Stevens toeing the ball home from three yards out to level the scores in the 61st minute after some scrappy defence from the home side.

Pine Hills looked to make a comeback through Jordan Farina however the skillful midfielder’s talents could not make up for the poor play of his teammates.

UQ had a number of chances to take a late lead in the match through substitute William O’Brien though poor finishing from the striker left the score deadlocked at fulltime.

While not a performance either side will be overly proud of, each side can take small consolation in the fact that their opponents couldn’t manage to steal the win late on.

Pine Hills faces a massive challenge in the coming weeks to secure their first win of the season with matches up against Peninsular Power, Olympic FC and Taringa on the horizon
