With the Victorian Premier League set to reach an amazing crescendo over the final two rounds The Football Sack steps in to give you the run down on the run home.
City are sitting on top, three points clear of the chasing pack with a huge goal difference on the top of the table contenders. Hume are not in the best form after losing their last two games to Bentleigh and South Melbourne and facing second placed Oakleigh next isn't filling fans with confidence. They will miss experienced 'keeper Lou Acevski after he received a red card last game, but only need a point against Oakleigh or a win against the Knights last round to secure top spot.
Run Home: Oakleigh (H) Melbourne Knights (A)
Our Prediction: 1st.
Oakleigh Cannons (currently 2nd)
Three points off top spot, Cannons face Hume City at Broadmeadows Valley Park this coming weekend in what shapes as a mini final. Last week's loss to Richmond might be costly but a healthy goal difference should see the Cannons safe regardless of the result depending on the outcome the week after against Dandenong Thunder.
Run Home: Hume City (A), Dandenong (H)
Our Prediction: 3rd
South Melbourne (currently 3rd)
With only one loss from their past seven outings South have hit good form at the right time. Every game from here on in will be finals like for South with matches against fellow finals aspirants Dandenong then a rip snorta against Northcote, who have shared their home ground with South for this season.
Run Home: Dandenong Thunder (A), Northcote City (H)
Our Prediction: 5th
Bentleigh Greens (currently 4th)
The Greens have been going about their business without much fanfare and sneaking under the radar of a few teams, most notably Hume City who have twice been beaten by Bentleigh. With the toughest draw of all the finals contenders it means an elimination final every week from here on in. They could well finish as high as 2nd but as low as 9th.
Run Home: Northcote City (A), Green Gully (H)
Our Prediction: 7th
Northcote City (currently 5th)
The most potent team in front of goal have amassed an amazing 55 goals scored but have let through 34 (the most by far from the contenders) this campaign with a goal difference of +21. Northcote also have a tough draw for the final two rounds which could prove too big a hill to climb.
Run Home: Bentleigh (H) South Melbourne (A) (effectively a home game)
Our Prediction: 8th
Heidelberg United (currently 6th)
A team that looked the one to beat earlier in the season has fallen back down to the middle of the pack. Heidelberg will miss top 'keeper and The Football Sack favorite Griffin McMaster with injury. But with the easiest of runs - home and two games at the Olympic Village with a game in hand - not even the Big Banana has a peel big enough for the Bergers to slip on. Luckily for Heidelberg their early season points deduction should mean little difference in ladder finish.
Run Home: St Albans (H) VTC (H) Springvale (H)
Our Prediction: 2nd
Green Gully (currently 7th)
The Gully have steadily improved as the season has gone on. Simon Storey's addition can't be understated and Gully have a relatively easy draw apart from the last round which The Football Sack has dubbed 'Green Day' against Bentleigh. Look for the Gully to come home as strong as Doriemus in the '97 Melbourne Cup.
Run Home: VTC (H) Springvale (H) Bentleigh (A)
Our Prediction: 4th
Dandenong Thunder (currently 8th)
Going so well early in the season led to The Football Sack podcast co-host Christian Layland dubbing the Thunder the best Australian team outside the Hyundai A-League. A round nine crowd indiscretion saw Dandenong docked six points by the FFV has seen the Thunder go into free fall and will inevitably cost them a finals spot.
Run Home: South Melbourne (H) Oakleigh (H)
Our Prediction: 9th
Richmond (currently 9th)
Richmond have found form in recent weeks with four good wins in a row but have probably left their run too late. Richmond play two sides below them in the run home and six points will see them knocking on the door of the top five but unfortunately just missing out.
Run Home: Melbourne Knights (H) St Albans (A)
Our Prediction: 6th
Melbourne Knights (currently 10th)
A very disappointing season for the once powerhouses of Australian football. The upside is that the Knights staved off relegation a few weeks back and beat huge rivals South Melbourne. The Knights will now set themselves for a big tilt at the Mirabella Cup.
Run Home: Richmond (H) Hume (H)
Our Prediction: 10th
St Albans Saints (currently 11th)
St Albans found the going too tough in the Alanic Victorian Premier League and will head straight back down to State League One. Saints will act as cannon fodder over next two weeks whilst teams look to secure finals positions and goal difference.
Run Home: Heidelberg United (A) Richmond (H)
Our Prediction: 11th
Springvale White Eagles (currently 12th)
With only two wins for the campaign and a -38 goal difference the White Eagles were out of their depth at this level and will go back to State League One. Games against finals hopefuls will not help that awful goal difference over the next two weeks.
Run Home: Green Gully (A) Heidelberg United (H)
Our Prediction: 12th
VTC (currently 13th)
Six points from the first three games was enough to have the doubters of this experiment ready to admit they were wrong but with only a further six points from the remaining 19 games questions will be raised as to how successful an experiment it was. It is unclear whether it will continue next season with speculation rife that Heart and Victory youth teams will fill the position.
Run Home: Green Gully, Heidelberg
Our prediction: 13th
