Melbourne Knights 1-1 Heidelberg United
Third-placed Heidelberg United travelled to Knights Stadium in an attempt to keep the pressure on leaders Hume City. They were unable however to hold onto the lead with fifteen minutes remaining. Saso Aleksovski handed the visitors the opening goal with a well struck volley in the fifth minute however in the 75th minute Kayne Vincent equalised with a second effort on goal. Knights were pushing hard to find a winner but it wasn’t to be as both sides had to settle for a draw.
Northcote City 0-4 Green Gully Cavaliers
Green Gully have continued their fine form with a demolishing four-nil away victory at John Cain Reserve against Northcote City. The Cavaliers took a two goal advantage into the break thanks to goals from Stephen Downes and Graham Hockless in the space of four minutes - in the 31st and 35th minute respectively. In the 68th minute the points were all but secured after a simple tap in by Mathew Sanders, while the hammering was completed with ten minutes remaining after a classy finish by Jason Hayne.
Dandenong Thunder 2-1 Springvale White Eagles
Dandenong have kept their hopes of Finals football alive with a 2-1 victory over Springvale whilst also condemning the Eagles to relegation and back to State League One next season. Going into the break the visitors managed to hold onto a one-all scoreline, but were not able to stick it out as the Thunder scored another, all but sealing the visitors fate in the Victorian Premier League.
Hume City 1-2 Bentleigh Greens
Bentleigh Greens have come away with a surprise away win against leaders Hume City thanks to a double by Ryan De Vries. The visiting side took the lead in the 21st minutes as a shot by De Vries flew past the outstretched Lupce Acevski. Greens had an opportunity to double their lead before the break from the penalty spot, but as we have seen many times this season Hume goalkeeper Lupce Acevski was up to the task, denying a second goal. With fifteen minutes remaining it seemed the points were sealed through another De Vries goal as he was left alone in the box, able to control the ball and provide a neat finish. However the home side did not give up and were back in the contest with five minutes later, striker Zoran Petreski able to score with a fine header thanks to a Vlahos assist. Although Hume pushed hard for an equaliser, it was not to be and Bentleigh held on for three very important points.
Richmond 1-0 South Melbourne
Richmond have kept their slim hopes of finals football alive with a one-nil victory over South Melbourne. It only took the home side five minutes to open the scoring through Ross Antoniadis who found the back of the net from the tightest of angles. The early blow was enough to seal all three points for the home side. Both teams pushed forward in an attempt to find another goal in the contest, however it was not to be, Richmond hanging on for points and ensuring their hopes for finals football are still intact.
