WASL : Butshiire worth a Million to Bayswater City

Monday, July 04, 2011

Bayswater City 2-1 Stirling Lions

New signing Million Butshiire fired Bayswater City to three wins from as many games. The home side went ahead in only the third minute when Cesar Gonzalez nodded in from a corner and with their confidence at a high, Bayswater continued to press throughout the first half. But Stirling took the pressure and turned the tide as the half hour mark approached, Phil O’Callaghan scored a fantastic individual goal, firing past a helpless Cory Hugo who could do nothing but watch the ball sail into the back of the net. In the 70th minute Gustavo Marulanda released Butshiire one on one with Hugo and the striker made no mistake sliding the ball beneath the keeper to win the game for Bayswater.

Sorrento FC 2-1 Mandurah City

Sorrento came out the winners over Mandurah City on what was a typical windy day at Percy Doyle Reserve. A lacklustre first half produced no goals and the game was 0-0 going into the break. Sorrento goalkeeper Curtis Aspden saved well from Robbie Hamm’s penalty kick after Marco Grigo was bundled over in the box. But Aspden could do nothing in the 52nd minute when Aaron Dos Santos lifted the ball over him after a knockdown from Rafael Insaurralde. With 12 minutes to go time was running out for Sorrento, they drew level thanks to a Brodie Martin strike from the edge of the area and veteran Todd Harnwell poked the ball home five minutes from time from a flick on by David Foster to secure the home side the three points.

Western Knights 2-0 ECU Joondalup

Western Knight defeated ECU Joondalup with a comfortable 2-0 scoreline at Nash Field, following their 3-1 loss to Stirling last week the home side put on a fine display of football. A penalty from stalwart Stuart Montgomery in the 15th minute put Knights 1-0 up and rarely did ECU threaten to equalise in the first half. ECU came out for the second half gunning for that equaliser with Charlie Comyn-Platt and John Thornley going close. In the last minute of the match Ryan Shackleton unleashed a wonderful strike from 30 yards to make it 2-0 and seal the win.

Balcatta SC 4-0 Armadale SC

League leaders Balcatta gave Armadale a lesson in football coming away winners in a 4-0 rout at Grindleford Reserve. Daniel Neiderberger scored two to take his tally to three goals from his last two games. Add a goal from defender Jovo Pavlovic and winger Daniel Micevski and Balcatta were always too strong for their tenth placed opponents. Balcatta stretched their lead over Perth to 11 points thanks to Inglewood United’s 1-0 win.

Perth SC 0-1 Inglewood United

Inglewood United defeated second placed Perth thanks to a goal from towering striker Rory Grant. The visitors went close to taking the lead in the early stages but Devon Spence tipped Josh Pereira’s effort around the post, a moment later at the opposite end Greg Sharland curled his effort inches past the post. And just after four minutes Grant hit the crossbar from six yards and the ball bounced down, but the referee waved play on to the dismay of the Inglewood players who believed the ball crossed the line. On the stroke of half time Grant rose to meet an Adrian Caceres cross and headed home the winner. Perth were unable to to get the equaliser in the second half and the match ended 1-0 to Inglewood.
