NSW Premier League to reach climax at Belmore

Sydney Olympic will be given their first opportunity to win the New South Wales Premier League Championship on Monday 3rd October, having never won the league or even appearing in a Grand Final since it's inception in 2001. Olympic will have home advantage at Belmore Sports Ground as they come up against perhaps the more decorated Sydney United, who won the Championship in 2006 and a Premiership in 2009.

If you only focused on the above statistics it would appear that Olympic have underperformed since their time in the National Soccer League. Talk to any fan however and they'll proudly announce themselves as one of the best football teams in the country. Why then do they so firmly believe this, other than each and every football fan's belief that their team is the greatest club since Studio 54?

Prior to it's folding the NSL was extremely fruitful for Olympic in terms of honours. But more recently and of more relevance in 2008 Sydney Olympic were Club Champions, awarded based on a club's performance across 1st Grade, Grade 20 and Grade 18. It could be seen as a prediction as to how competitive senior teams will be in future seasons, displaying quality throughout the club's youth. Now three years on the Belmore side are reigning premiers at senior level and have a job to do against Sydney United.

It's the same task they had two weeks ago and in that encounter Olympic claimed a 2-0 victory over United. It was not the prettiest of games and it is unlikely this Monday's match will be much different. Finals football however is about the weight of the result and the tense atmosphere that is created on account, therefore making it unmissable.

The game kicks off at 3pm next Monday at Belmore Sports Ground. Tickets will be available at the gate.
