A Shane Smeltz double was enough to give Perth Glory their second win in as many matches and condemn Melbourne Heart to the bottom of the table in the final game in Round Two.
Heart were missing striker Jason Hoffman, who pulled out with food poisoning and then lost Fred early in the game with a hamstring stain that could see him miss next weeks derby against Melbourne Victory.
Smeltz headed the opening goal home on 34 minutes after Liam Miller put it on a plate for the marksman, with the Kiwi international firing home from the six yard box.
Heart hit back on the stroke of half time when referee Gerard Parsons awarded what looked to be a soft penalty, but on closer inspection got the decision spot on as Chris Coyne grabbed a handful of Maycon's jersey inside the area whilst the ball was in flight. David Williams stepped up to coolly slot the penalty home.
Smeltz then put the Glory ahead on 67 minutes after veteran defender Matt Thompson coughed up the ball which gave the prolific striker all the time and space he needed to slot home, leaving rookie 'keeper Nikola Roganovic little chance.
A relatively good crowd of 7229 were on hand at AAMI Park to see Perth Glory go equal top of the table whilst Melbourne Heart are the only team in the league to collect a point this season.
