Each week Matt Collard will reveal The Football Sack's best eleven. Disagree with his choices? Let him know in the comments section below.
Goalkeeper
We have a new goalkeeper this week, although Ante Covic did his absolute best to try earn a third straight appearance with a valiant effort in goals during his scoreless draw with Melbourne Heart.
Ben Kennedy was a rock in Newcastle's F3 derby win on Sunday. The 1-0 result was largely thanks to Kennedy who held strong during the Mariners second half charge for an equaliser. Kennedy conceded four goals in the first two matches, but his first clean sheet of the season was well deserved.
Defence
Two Heart players made my defensive line this week. Victory struggled to break down their Melbourne rivals and it was largely thanks to Curtis Good who was immovable in the center back role. Michael Marrone also had a great game - he was very good in attack, offering options for Dugandzic, as well as helping keep the Victory front line relatively quite.
Also in my defence is Bas Van den Brink and Shane Stefanutto. Van den Brink had another brilliant game at center back for Perth. He was dominant against Chris Greenacre, and also played the header that assisted Shane Smeltz goal. Stefanutto had yet another good game. Always reliable going forward and in defence, it was only a matter of time until Stefanutto made the team of the week.
Midfield
Erik Paartalu and Terry Antonis are in the center of the midfield this week. Paartalu had another brilliant game in the holding midfield role, as did young Sydney FC star Antonis. Both have been impressive in the first few weeks and were particularly good this weekend.
Another Sydney FC player who made my team of the week is Nick Carle. The attacking midfielder scored the winner in the 82nd minute and had a generally impressive game. Sydney had their best match in over 12 months and, along with Antonis, Carle was key to that.
Attack
Jeremy Brockie and Mate Dugandzic are on the flanks for me this week. Brockie was brilliant and scored the winning goal for Newcastle. Dugandzic didn't manage to get on the scoresheet but was arguably the best on the pitch in the Melbourne derby.
Besart Berisha leads the line this week. He scored a goal and had a good game against the Gold Coast, but it was his post match interview where he expressed his love for Massimo Murdocca that sealed the deal.
