The pressure is building on Adelaide United as they look to turn their horror start to the season around this weekend when they face Gold Coast at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The Reds have taken four points from their opening five Hyundai A-League fixtures and sit just one place above Melbourne Heart at the foot of the table.
Head Coach Rini Coolen admits it’s time for Adelaide to turn its fortunes around and believes it starts by taking all three points this Friday night.
“We have to go for the win, that’s what you need at this stage of the competition,” he said.
“We prefer to take the next step and the next step is better football, but we start with keeping the three points at home”.
Coolen believes there were positives to take out of last Friday’s match against the Heart and said he hopes to reinforce his attacking philosophy on the team.
“Last week was a little bit better, we had more possession than our opponent and we created more chances,” Coolen said.
“We prefer to play more attacking football, we have a lot of attacking players on the pitch so our intention is to play as attacking as possible.”
United will look to cash in on home advantage with a local crowd after the clash was moved from Skilled Park to Hindmarsh.
Adelaide midfielder Zenon Caravella is excited by the move and hopes the Reds can pay back the loyalty of their fans.
“A win is very important, as I said before we’ve got a great home crowd and they come out and support us all the time so we want to give them something back,” he said.
“We will get the wins, the wins will come.”
Caravella will come up against his former team but said he’s approaching it as he would any other game.
“For me it’s just another game, it doesn’t have any extra significance”.
“We go out there every week to get the same result and that’s to win whether that’s against an old club or a new club”.
United will be without Ukrainian midfielder Evgeniy Levchenko and defender Milan Susak for the clash but will be buoyed by the return of Nigel Boogaard, who is yet to feature for the Reds this year.
