Club Marconi was once dubbed “The Palace” and in many ways is still one of Sydney’s largest cosmopolitan social clubs. However, what is unavoidable is the link between Club Marconi and football, and Mr Foti is a football man from way back.
Marconi Stallions may no longer ply their trade in the highest domestic football competition in the country, but they are still very active in the NSW Premier League and in the juniors. In Mr Foti, Club Marconi is in very good hands - a professional and hard-working official who genuinely has the interests of Club Marconi and the Marconi Stallions in his heart.
Moot Point - who for over two decades has always been welcomed with open arms at Club Marconi - is delighted that such a wonderful official has being elected to the top job. The football office at Club Marconi, led by the eccentric and brilliant Paul Saliba, is still working assiduously to maintain the strong football links with community of south-western Sydney that have been established for over 50 years. Mr Foti will only enhance these links.

Jubilee Oval, Kogarah is the place to be this Sunday for all Sydney FC supporters. The last time football was played at the boutique venue was when Sydney Olympic used the ground in the last years of the old National Soccer League.

It was, and still is, a magnificent venue. Let’s hope that the crowd comes out in force to see Sydney FC take on the all conquering Brisbane Roar. Moot Point has always believed that Sydney FC should use a variety of venues and Jubilee Oval at Kogarah is definitely one of those.
Perhaps it could become Sydney FC’s second home ground, especially when teams such as Wellington Phoenix and Gold Coast United are in town. 10,000 or so fans at the Sydney Football Stadium almost get lost in the cavernous venue but the same number at Jubilee Oval would provide a fantastic atmosphere. This Sunday at 5pm I would anticipate over 15,000 at Kogarah to see the record breaking Brisbane Roar in action.

On the subject of the Brisbane Roar, like everyone else this week, it would be remiss of me to neglect their wonderful achievement of 36 games unbeaten which is, of course, a record for any code of football in Australia.

On the subject of the Brisbane Roar, like everyone else this week, it would be remiss of me to neglect their wonderful achievement of 36 games unbeaten which is, of course, a record for any code of football in Australia.
Ange Postecoglou has set a new benchmark for local coaches to follow and it is a record that may not be broken in our lifetime. The record is even more impressive given that in all 36 games there wasn’t a single scoreless draw. The Roar have scored in every game and driven football to new heights in Australia.
Capon for Football?
Edmund Capon may not be an immediately recognisable name in football, so why mention him here? Capon, aged 71, has been in charge of the Art Gallery of NSW since his arrival from London in 1978 and, for a short period a few years ago, was chairman of Sydney FC when they had their revolving door policy towards management.
Capon’s other love is football - he is a Chelsea tragic. A person of such intellect, decorum and great community standing, should somehow be welcomed into the football family now that he has more time on his hands given that he is due to retire from the Art Gallery of NSW at the end of this year.
Capon’s insight, business contacts and general know-how surely cannot be left untapped by football. The Art Gallery of NSW is now one of the great galleries of the world, but prior to Capon’s appointment it was no more than a provincial museum with some works of art. Let's hope that we can tap into such a person for our game in Australia.
