Wolves FC win BPL 2012 Grand Final

Friday, September 28, 2012

Wolves FC have been crowned BPL champions after downing traditional rivals Rochedale 3-1 in a dominating display in front of a capacity crowd at Luxury Paints Stadium.

Everyone will be talking about…
Clinical finishing either side of the break and relief for Wolves coach Sam Saif. Wolves dominated the majority of the match but it took two brilliant strikes from Alex Janovsky and Trent Clulow to break the game open and finally hand Saif and his team some silverware after finishing second in the league and runners-up in the cup.

Yeah, but what happened?
Wolves looked the more dangerous side right from the offset but failed to trouble Rovers custodian Tom Patterson until ten minutes from half time. US import Eric Frazier put through a precise ball for Janovsky, who sped past two defenders and finished clinically to open the scoring. But it was a moment of individual brilliance that shook the stands, as Trent Clulow ran 50 metres in possession, cut across his opposing fullback and dispatched the ball at the near post. The strike was a mark of genius and breathed confidence throughout the side. But that winning feeling was temporarily cut back when a looping Rovers corner rebounded off a pack of bodies and into the net with twenty minutes to play. Few could be blamed for anticipating a customary Rochedale comeback and the Rovers crowd were soon on their feet. Attacking dynamo Cody Lovell found himself at the right place at the right time, nevertheless Wolves stopper Duncan Short produced an instinctive save from close range. The writing was on the wall for Rochedale and with men committed forward, Janovsky found space and burst into the area, only to be brought down for a resulting spot kick. Clulow made no mistake to send Wolves into hysteria and gain revenge - by the same score - for last year's Grand Final loss to Rochedale.
