Popovic pops home cherry with Heart

Saturday, November 03, 2012

Either I've been watching too much of The Sopranos or big Tony is sitting coolly smoking a victory cigar right now. Tony Popovic, that is.

Popovic has more faith in his team's shooting ability than some.
Collaboratively, Western Sydney Wanderers are simply working. Hersi is proving a creative attacking outlet on the right, Aaron Mooy is increasingly hard to deal with and Ono is at the centre of it all.

And here we were thinking that a team put together in four months would be a group of misfits. Perhaps all teams should be compiled in just over half an offseason.

Youssouf Hersi was practicing up on his FIFA 13 skills last week on the Hyundai stand at the motor show. It's definitely improved his actual game in recent weeks. That's gotta be it, right? Saying that, Dino Kresinger was also there with a PlayStation controller in hand. He scored a goal as himself that day but hasn't featured on the real park since.

Their 2-1 victory over Melbourne Heart places them 4th on the ladder. Could they be dark horses to win the A-League premiership? No, but they might cause a fair few upsets over coming months. And perhaps, against Sydney FC, upset some Italians along the way.

Underdogs? Forget about it.
