Adelaide United coach John Kosmina has heaped praise on his foreign legion after the Reds cruised to a 4-2 win over bitter rivals Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

Argentine playmaker Marcelo Carrusca and Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira produced a goal and an assist each in the match and Kosmina singled out the pair for their influence on the result.

Kosmina feels Carrusca will end the season recognised as one of the league’s best players as he continues to adjust to the pace of the competition.

“I think he’s still got a long way to go in terms of conditioning,” Kosmina said.

“He said to me the other week he’s done more running here in three months than he did in three years in Argentina.

“We found him on a DVD. We looked at lots of them and as soon as he came up we said ‘can we do a deal’ and we got it done,” he said.

The Reds gaffer was full of praise for the import and says he’s a cut above most players plying their trade in the league.

“He’s got that magic touch... he may give the ball away cheap at times but you look at the quality you get on the other spectrum and it far outstrips mere mortals,” Kosmina said.

“What a finish, great finish. He can see those kinds of things that a lot of other players don’t see.

“It’s the timing, the way the ball went in, Nathan Coe had no chance,” he said.

Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira produced another inspired performance down the right side, with a goal and assist drawing praise from Kosmina.

“As soon as he came here (from Sydney) you could see he’s got quality,” Kosmina said.

“He scored a great goal tonight, it was fantastic finish but also the way he set up the first one was great.

“(His pace) is electric, and he’s got such good technique and touch,” he said.

Despite the win Kosmina is trying to keep his side’s feet firmly on the ground even though the victory has United temporarily on top of the ladder.

“It’s easy to take all the accolades this week, but the hard part is backing it up. That’s what we have to as a team,” he said.
