Kossie hails Reds revival

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

Adelaide United coach John Kosmina has hailed his team’s turnaround in form after dispatching Sydney FC 3-0 in last night’s New Year’s Eve clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The Reds were coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season however put in an emphatic display that had Kossie struggling to find negatives in the overall performance.

“The most pleasing part was that we kept a clean sheet and that we put two halves of football together,” Kosmina said.

“Sydney had a young team out there, relatively inexperienced and we could’ve maybe got more out of it but the fact is we went on with the first half.

“We created a lot of opportunities in the second and with any luck we could’ve had seven or eight or even more,” he said.

Dario Vidosic put in a standout performance for Adelaide as he scored the first two goals before hitting the woodwork twice as he searched in vain for a third.

Winger Iain Ramsay completed the rout in the 61st minute as he capitalised on a rare mistake by ‘keeper Vedran Janjevotic who spilled Bruce Djite’s low shot across goals.

After suffering a 6-1 drubbing against the Wanderers two games previously, Kosmina lamented a more clinical performance in the attacking third as United had a plethora of chances to convert but only put three past Janjevotic.

“The only thing I didn’t like I suppose is that we didn’t get more goals,” Kosmina said.

“We had an opportunity to make up for the six we copped the other week (against Wanderers) and square the ledger at least on goal difference.

“Having said that we hit the woodwork three times so that makes six we lost the other week,” he said.

Sydney coach Frank Farina conceded his side was dominated by the Reds over the 90 minutes and said a lack of experience played its part in the loss.

“To be brutally honest, we were outplayed,” Farina said.

“We could have lost by seven or eight tonight.

“We only had Brett (Emerton) and Terry (McFlynn) on the park that you could call experienced,” he said.

The Reds now head interstate to face the Newcastle Jets while Farina has his work cut out to turn around the Blues’ fortunes as they take on the Glory in the New Year.
