Rogic, Marrone, Davies, let's recap the day

9:00am: Tom Rogic temporarily to Celtic.
The Central Coast Mariners confirmed today that no offer has yet been tabled for Rogic, but he's headed to Spain to train with Celtic in their mid-season training camp.

Mariners General Manager of Football, Lawrie McKinna, was today pleased with the arrangement.

"This is a great opportunity for Tomas to train with Celtic’s first team squad.

"Celtic are in their mid-season break and are busy preparing for their Champions League matches against Juventus starting in February, so Tom will undoubtedly learn a lot from the experience."


9:30am: Michael Marrone to Shanghai Shenxin
Inaugural club member Michael Marrone leaves Melbourne Heart for a Chinese Super League Club (reportedly Shanghai Shenxin) after making 70 appearances for the red and white. He's actually the most capped Heart player; ever.

“Michael has been a great servant of the club and has become a fan favourite,” head coach John Aloisi said.

“During his time with the Heart he has become one of the competition’s standout full-backs, with his performances drawing recognition from his peers and earning him a Socceroos cap last month.

“Michael has been presented with a great opportunity and the club will not stand in his way of chasing professional football in the highly-competitive Asian market.

“Michael has always expressed his desire to play football overseas and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”


10:30am: Julius Davies released from Melbourne Victory
He hasn't featured all season and now 18 year old Davies has been granted an early exit from his contract. Here's some quotes from the man himself.

"It was a great experience and I am really glad I had the opportunity with Melbourne Victory even though it did not work out as I had hoped," Davies said.

"I want to thank all my teammates who have been great to me during my time here in Melbourne. I also wish to thank everyone at the Melbourne Victory Football Club for their support and I look forward to the next challenge in my career." 


11:00am Mabil and Elsey to Adelaide United
Adelaide United aren't necessarily known for their in-house youth policy quite yet, but that's set to change with the promotion of National Youth League youngsters Awer Mabil and Jordan Elsey on senior contracts.

The signings are both on two year deals commencing on 1 May 2013 and takes the number of young South Australian talent under the age of 20 at the club to five.

Adelaide United Chairman Greg Griffin proudly made the announcement.

“Both of these boys are players who have come through the local system, we’ve developed them and are delighted to say they will be part of our squad for next season.”

“We’re making a statement here that we will give young South Australian kids a go.” 


2:30pm: Julius Davies to Brisbane Roar
Remember this guy? Yep, he's just been unveiled at the Roar today after the club yesterday snagged Socceroo defender Jade North. New head coach Mike Mulvey is fairly stamping his mark on the struggling title defenders' teamsheet.

“I’ve been aware of him with his recent past with Melbourne Victory and before that, with Bayern Munich,” Mulvey said.

“He’s someone I’m sure the other players will enjoy having around and one I think that can terrorise the opposition on the pitch.”


3:30pm: Petar Franjic released from Melbourne Victory
The day of player movements continues, with Franjic the latest player released from the Victory camp. The former Melbourne Knights player was wished all the best from coach Ange Postecoglou and thanked him for his contribution to Melbourne Victory.

“Petar is a terrific clubman but, unfortunately for him, competition is strong within the squad and he decided that it would be best for his development to seek regular first team opportunities elsewhere,” Postecoglou said.


4:00pm: Rocky Visconte to Western Sydney Wanderers
Brisbane Roar released Visconte yesterday so that he could begin with Wanderers on a short-term deal. He will commence training with the club tomorrow.

Coach Tony Popovic believes the signing will further bolster the depth of his squad.

“Rocky is a good young player, and he is very hungry and ambitious and we are very pleased to have him to add to our attacking options in the squad,” Popovic said.

“He has not had a lot of match time at the Roar, and we will take the next week or so to work with him and see exactly where he is at.

“We are looking forward to having him with us and we will be working hard together to bring the best out of him.”
