The Wanderers have arguably been the most successful inclusion for the A-League in its short history.
The RBB (Red and Black Bloc) are in full flight, Japanese superstar Shinji Ono has played himself into frightening form and the Wanderers have now gone five straight games undefeated.
The Wanderers played host to Melbourne Victory last night in what was an outstanding footballing display from the home side.
The atmosphere of game day at 'Wanderland' has the coaching staff, players and fans biting their nails to do it all again this Sunday against the Central Coast Mariners.
A Shinji Ono goal at home is the perfect formula for a complete match day experience at Parramatta Stadium. His two goals sent the 13,659 screaming fans into a frenzy last night. Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic agrees.
“As a player you enjoy playing in that atmosphere. For our players to hear that noise in a warm up before the game then it goes onto the start of the game, I’m surprised it’s become what it already has.” Popovic said after the match.
“We certainly hope our performances can make it grow and the fans have just been brilliant since day one.
“The noise they generate and the atmosphere - they feel a real sense of pride within the team and likewise are players with fans."
Ono scored both of his side’s goals on a memorable night for the marquee man. His first was simply magnificent, a thunderbolt left footed shot across the face of goal. He then produced possibly the goal of the season with a curling shot around the 'keeper into the top right hand corner from just outside the box.
“They were two great goals. He’s a special player, and he’s been a special player here for this football club since he arrived.” Popovic said.
“We saw from the first moment he got here the talent that he has.
“It just took time for him to get his match fitness to a level that he can show what he did tonight over longer periods.
“He’s a great player, a great man and a perfect fit for this football club.”
