Crossbar: A-League is rocking several socks

Monday, February 18, 2013

We all thought that the Mariners were going to run away with the minor premiership and not win the GF but hold your horses. The title race is still up for grabs.

The Glory did the rest of the league a favour by scoring their 1st and 2nd goals in weeks, the Wanderers did the countries Sydney centric media a favour by beating Melbourne Victory. Next week its Mariners vs Victory. The A-League is rocking.

Brisbane turned their ordinary week around by beating the Phoenix who may as well not turn up to Suncorp again (they totally suck away and even more so in QLD).

Sydney FC capped off their best week of the season with a win and the signing of the national captain. Happy days.

Newcastle beat Melbourne Heart and went a fair way to setting up that last spot in the final six.

These snuck under the Crossbar and into The Sack (Likes)
1. The Glory WIN!!!

2. The Mariners lose. Its good for the sake of the title race, not because we are Mariners haters.
3. Melbourne Victory vs WSW. Great game, great atmosphere. Worthy of a final. @CrowzarY
4. Sydney FC winning and back into the finals race. @Morphjin

5. Corey Gameiro, great pick-up by Wellington, future Socceroo star. @Thurbs62
6. Lucas Neill in the A-League, showing that our league isn't beneath anyone. Now for a Mr. Mark Schwarzer...
7. Carlos Hernandez back in the A-League. Thank your lucky stars, you are not above him.

8. Newcastle. Because they need some love too.

What went over the Crossbar (Dislikes)

1. Melbourne Heart. What do they stand for right now?2. Only one automatic spot in Asia. The three top sides now would dominate the ACL, although we thought the same of Brisbane last season didn't we?
3. Suncorp Stadium. Great when its full. Only been full twice. Pitch was terrible, time to look at other options.
4. The Mulvey Out sign at Suncorp. Brisbane fans. Take a chill pill.

Too early to call:
The Final Six is settled. But if I could get odds on it I'd take it.

Something we learned:
The FFA are partly funding Luca$h Neill's contract at Sydney FC. In the words of a former Prime Minister as depicted on the Simpsons, "It's a bloody outrage it is".

Something we already knew:
The Wanderers fans are large in voice and numbers. Brilliant away support on Saturday night at AAMI Park.

Something we would change:
The biased reporting from various media outlets. Both football fans and anti-football media need to give a little here.

Hero of the Week:
Lucas Neill. The national captain in the A-League. Whoooo hoooo!

Villain of the Week:
Lucas Neill. Otherwise known as "Who?" when you quiz a Melbourne Heart fan.

Last week's prediction:

1. All the away sides will win this week. Even Wellington. The Wanderers were the only ones,  FAIL
2. Jason Culina to be linked to Melbourne Heart, keeping up with their 'youth policy'. No but Lucas Neill was, 1-1 draw here.
3. Ricki Herbert. Sacked. Stay tuned

4. Mike Mulvey's chances of retaining his job after this season. @CLeeds24 Two more years

This week's prediction:
1. Luca$h Neill to score against Melbourne Heart and either not celebrate out of respect or pull a wad of hundreds from his sock and wave it at Aloisi, Didiluca and Munn.
2. Sydney FC and Newcastle to beat Brisbane and Heart respectively, increasing the gap between top six and bottom four
3. Shinji Ono to sign a contract extension and cap it off with a hat trick against the Glory.
