A 1-0 victory has Western Sydney sitting on top of the tree in Australian football.
The first real opportunity went to the Wanderers in the eighth minute as La Rocca stole the ball outside the Glory box to provide Gibbs with a shot on goal. But the decision to opt with placement rather then power was one that the Striker was left to rue.
A foul on Mark Bridge gifted Shinji Ono with a free kick 25 meters out, almost directly in front of goals. Ono curled the ball around the wall but simply lacked the power and venom to threaten Glory goalkeeper Daniel Vukovic.
It was all the home side in the first 25 minutes and Hersi should have given the Wanderers the lead. The Dutch born international combined with striker Mark Bridge for a crafty one-two touch, which presented him with a shot at goal. But the shot took a slight deflection to see it travel just wide of the left post.
Bridge kept goalkeeper Daniel Vukovic on his toes with an optimistic shot from outside the box minutes before half time. The vocal home fans had little to cheer about in a scoreless first half.
In a first half that produced few half chances, it was the Wanderers who struck first in the second half through Aaron Mooy. Bridge played through the midfielder as his shot deflected into the back of the net.
