And despite the three goals, goalkeepers Andrew Redmayne and Nathan Coe were arguably the best on ground, constantly keeping their side in the game throughout the 90 minutes.
Archie Thompson got the ball rolling for the Victory with a superb goal after 29 minutes. Marco Flores played a wonderful chip into the path of the fan favourite and he made no mistake with his attempt.
The goal was against the run of play with Heart mostly dominating the game up until the half an hour mark. Both Josip Tadic and Eli Babalj were close to opening the scoring for the visiting team but their attempts were to no avail.
Mark Milligan doubled the lead after Jonathan Germano was deemed to have brought down Marcos Flores in the penalty area. Strebre Delovski had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot and Milligan enjoyed the goal in front of the always passionate North Terrace.
David Williams managed to pulled one back for the Heart at the 72nd minute, running around Nathan Coe and sending the Red and White army into raptures. However it was all too late for the Heart, Victory collecting their second win of the season over their bitter rivals.
There were also minor injury concerns for both clubs with Tadic (toe) and Nick Ansell (groin) being substituted off the field before the half time whistle.
