Adelaide United have all but clinched a top four spot whilst destroying Melbourne Hearts finals aspirations with a 2-0 win at AAMI Park on Monday night.
A Dario Vidosic penalty, his first goal for 2013, followed by a second half Iain Ramsay strike was enough for Adelaide to assure themselves of finals football this season.
The game played in uncomfortable above 30 degree heat, started off just as hot on the pitch with both sides having three shots on goal within the first 12 minutes. Galegovic and Redmayne in goal both having to make outstanding saves.
Adelaide were clearly the better side and deserved all three points even though the penalty seemed to be soft as best. Carrusca going down far too easily and awkwardly from a Walker challenge that had the slightest of contact to it.
The Adelaide fans who were at the game were as surprised to have taken a lead as they were to have crossed the border into 2013.
After half time Heart just couldn't get back into the game at all and even should they make the finals don't look to be a serious challenger based on tonight's performance.
Iain Ramsay was able to beat Redmayne in the 54th minute and the game was shot from there on in, in Matt Thompsons 200th Hyundai A-League appearance (the first to do so).
The win for United has them 1 point behind Melbourne Victory in forth spot with three games to play whilst Heart finish the round in second last spot, 3 points above last place but more importantly only 3 points away from Brisbane roar in 5th place.
