NSW Wrap: Younis leads Bonnyrigg demolition

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Robbie Younis banged in four goals for Bonnyrigg, including a second half hattrick, as they went on to hammer the Central Coast Mariners Academy 5-1. The striker is already well on the way to winning back to back golden boots with five goals already, while Bonnyrigg look set to challenge hard for another league Premiership. Only Sydney United sit with them on top with nine points.

Manly United 1-0 Blacktown Spartans
(Cholakian 76’)

Manly United continued their bright start to the season with a solitary goal in the 76th minute providing the three points for the Cromer Park boys against the Blacktown Spartans.

After a round one win the Spartans have lost their last two, but will be encouraged by the resilient performances they offered in both of these losses. Only an inspired performance from Manly goalkeeper Dylan Mitchell denied the Spartans at least a point in the game.

Cholakian scored the decisive goal by driving the ball home at the near post after the Spartans failed to clear a cross effectively. Under 20’s: Manly United 2-5 Blacktown

APIA Leichhardt 1-1 Sutherland Sharks
(Taneski 42’)              (Moustakas 68’)

APIA Leichhardt put in a spirited performance against a strong Sutherland team, and only had the three points fall out of the grasp of Ryan Norval as he dropped the ball at the feet of Sharks defender Moustakas.

Young star Taneski opened the scoring, a deserved scoreline at half time for APIA, with a great goal that required a quality first touch, run and shot, all of which Taneski delivered.

Bonnyrigg White Eagles 5-1 Central Coast Mariners Academy
(Younis 41’ (pen), 62’, 74’, 77’, Mansueto 49’), (Payne 27’)

Robbie Younis bagged himself four goals in Bonnyriggs demolishing job against the Mariners Academy and has started off his campaign for back to back golden boots in style.

The Mariners opened the scoring through Chris Payne’s second goal of the season. But they failed to respond to a different Bonnyrigg outfit that returned from the sheds in the second half, as the home side nailed four goals in the final 45 minutes to confirm their spot at the top of the table.

Rockdale City Suns 0-0 Marconi Stallions

Rockdale and Marconi played out the first scoreless draw this year to each pick up their first point of the season at llinden Sports Center on Saturday night.

Alec Urosevski saw red moment before the half time break, leaving Rockdale with 10 men to hold out Marconi. In the end, both teams had chances to win the fixture and will be slightly disappointed to have failed in getting on the scoresheet.

South Coast Wolves 1-2 Sydney United
(Zucco 9')                      (Glavas 53' (pen), Pavlovic 68')

Glavas scored his third penalty of the game to help Sydney United on the way to their third victory, as the first division heavyweights won the hard way again.

Ricky Zucco’s opener against the run of play was enough for the Wolves to go into the break ahead, but Mark Rudan’s side has already proved their determination in the first two games and again showed their resilience with two second half goals.

A red card for the Wolves goal scorer just three minutes before substitute Mirvan Pavlovic put the visitors in the lead, made it all the more harder for South Coast in their attempt to find an equaliser, and United were strong enough to hold onto the lead.

Under 20’s: South Coast Wolves 0-1 Sydney United
Next week: Marconi Stallions v South Coast Wolves
                   Sydney United v Sydney Olympic

Sydney Olympic 2-1 Blacktown City
(Williams 11’, Danaskos 68’), (Gaitatzis 41’)

An early red card for Blacktown City defender Zac Cairncross just three minutes after Kingsley Williams opened the scoring left Blacktown City with a daunting task at Olympic.

But the visitors managed to head into the sheds with the scores level after Harris Gaitatzis managed to beat Paul Henderson from close range just minutes before the break.

Though holding out Olympic with 10 men was always going to be a momentous challenge, and they would feel unlucky that the goal that eventually toppled them was a contender for goal of the season. Troy Danaskos fired in a shot from 30 yards and managed to pick out the top corner.

Under 20’s: Sydney Olympic 0-3 Blacktown City
