Meanwhile, a return to the winners list and postponements elsewhere meant Olympic FC added breathing space in first.
Olympic FC 2 (Smits 28' Ingham 62')
QAS 0
Olympic FC moved on from their first loss of the season with a hard-fought victory over the QAS at Goodwin Park on Friday night thanks to goals in either half.
Tim Smits scored his first goal in five matches to set the hosts on their way while winger Jai Ingham joined him on the scoresheet with a 20-yard rocket, but Olympic didn't have it their own way despite the encounter matching first versus last.
The Academy were dogged and well-structured in defence throughout the affair, though the league-leaders' third clean sheet of the campaign earned them a victory which restores their six-point lead in first.
FNQ Heat 2 (Nucifora 38' Murphy 50')
Redlands United 4 (Fyfe p.24', 58', 80' Barbarouses 85')
A trio of second-half goals won Redlands three points on the trip to Cairns with a 4-2 defeat of Far North Queensland on Saturday night.
Redlands were inspired by a hat-trick from prolific midfielder Graham Fyfe, the first of which opened the scoring and the last putting the Devils in front for the final time.
Fyfe's 80th minute effort meant the visitors retook the lead after Cameron Nucifora and Tom Murphy had wrestled back the initiative for Heat, but Fyfe's heroics and George Barbarouses' late sealer settled the result.
Redlands are again on the road in Round 14 as they visit Rockhampton, while FNQ head south to meet Brisbane City.

Northern Fury 2 (Richards 27' Read 75')
CQ Energy 2 (Geddes 23', 60')
Chris Geddes again was again the scoring force behind a Central Queensland result, but Northern Fury's recoveries decided it would be a point apiece in Townsville on Saturday.
Geddes' brace took his haul to 17 for the season, second only to Antonio Murray, an incredible feat considering his team sit second from bottom.
The Englishman's goals twice gave Energy the lead but the visitors were unable to hold either, reined in by Matthew Richards' carbon copy of the opener and Alex Read's classy 75th minute finish.
Central Queensland did inch away from bottom and closer to tenth despite coughing up three points, while Fury lost ground on a now-separated top six.
Moreton Bay Jets 2 (Brownlie 39', 90+1')
Sunshine Coast FC 0
Moreton Bay continued to rekindle their early-season form on Saturday night, completing a seasonal double over Sunshine Coast thanks to a brace from Royce Brownlie.
Brownlie, a former Brisbane Roar striker, scored in both halves - first from the penalty spot and later a a stoppage-time free-kick - to lead his side to a fourth successive match without defeat, a run which has included three victories.
The result followed the Jets' defeat of Fire on the Sunshine Coast in Round 2 and moved them above their opponents into fifth, within striking distance of the top four.
POSTPONED: Brisbane Strikers vs. Brisbane City, Western Pride vs. Palm Beach Sharks.
