Liverpool FC diverted to Papua New Guinea

Friday, July 19, 2013

English Premier League side Liverpool FC has arrived for their marquee match against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday following an initial diversion to Papua New Guinea.

The unfortunate gaffe was made in the transitional period of Australia's new stance on asylum seekers. Immigration officers interpreted club official's Liverpudlian accents as "too foreign" and immediately diverted the football team's charter flight to PNG.

"Why you so racist Australia?"
The situation has now been rectified, the team checking into their hotel earlier this evening.

Kevin Sheedy has come out in support of the new government policy. Back-flipping on comments made earlier this year in regards to immigrants and football, Sheedy has offered Skoda Stadium as an alternative to PNG should Manus Island "fill up".

"There's plenty of space in the stands, particularly on game day. We've invited soccer fans along on Saturday as well, so the two ideas combined should increase our attendance somewhat" said Sheedy.

Liverpool take on Melbourne Victory on Wednesday 24th at the MCG. Kick-off at 7:30pm - watch it live and exclusive on Channel 7 with multi-screen coverage on Fango.
