There were no surprises unveiled in the final squad with seven Queenslanders, seven from New South Wales, four Victorians, two South Australians, two from ACT and one West Australian.

The AFC U16 Women’s Championships is the official FIFA qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup to be held in Costa Rica in early 2014. Australia are placed in Group A with the host nation China and Bahrain. The knock out draw has four groups with the winners progressing to the semi-finals the top three ranked AFC teams advancing to the World Cup in 2014.

August was a busy month for Wilson who recently took over the reins of the ‘Mini Matildas’ squad and she successfully engineered a solid set of performances against New Zealand in Canberra. Details of the New Zealand results can be found here.
As preparation for the AFC Championships in China the team will gather in Brisbane on the 19th of September and travel to Toowoomba for a pre-tournament camp which includes a practice match against the Westfield W-League’s Brisbane Roar.
