Crossbar: Taggart Mania

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

After seven rounds its fair to say that the field has narrowed to seven teams that can win it. That's easy enough to say but remember after four rounds we wrote of Sydney and Newcastle? Heart are gone, build for next season already, Wellington as we Melbourne Victory were season one, will take some time to build, that's the Ernie Merrick way. Adelaide fans though, well they should feel cheated.

Our big observation:
The next generation of Socceroo is well and truly on the way, Adam Taggart, Kwame Yeboah leading the way this weekend

These snuck under the Crossbar (likes)
Kevin Muscat showing who is in charge when James Troisi headed for the tunnel, it went something like "Get back here and f#@king sit down"  (These Bunnings chairs are ever so comfortable)
•    Amount of goals, the quality of goals - @bneil33    - Franjic, Duke, Taggart, Yeboah

•  Jacob Burns - No yellow card. #DreamBeleiveAcheive
•    Newcastle Jets with an ALL AUSTRALIAN starting line-up and only Heskey on the bench as a non-Australian.

What went over the crossbar (dislikes)

•   Referees making the game about themselves. stamp it out FFA.
•   What happened to Aziz Behich? Wasn't he a Socceroos contender a few seasons back?
•   Early Saturday games, we might continue to put it in here for the rest of the season. please tweet @thefootballsack if you like Sat 5:30 games, we'd love to hear from you.

•   The two Melbourne teams use of the Marquee spot.

Ref Watch: Round Seven
Okay, so 99% of your dislikes last year were referee related even when we said NO REFS, so we have added 'Ref Watch' this year and will try to be completely balanced in our appraisal.

Grade: C

You see the problem is.. If you give free kicks all over the ground EVERY. TIME. SOMEONE. FALLS. OVER. then you back yourself into a corner and have to blow your whistle when Jeronimo goes down in the box after the slightest of touches. Ben Williams made Saturday night about himself. Strebre is miles ahead of the pack.

These players have played for both teams
In this week's fixtures there are a few players that have graced the stage for both teams playing in the match. Here they are:

Nik Mrdja - Mariners Vs Victory
Best known for: going to Victory as an injury replacement and getting sent off in his first game

Isaka Cernak - Roar Vs Glory
Best known for: looking good at NQ Fury and not following through on his talent

Sasho Petrovski - Sydney Vs Jets
Best known for: scoring 41 A-League goals for 3 NSW based clubs.

Reece Caira - Phoenix Vs Wanderers
Best known for: Being part of Aston Villa's youth set up.

Kristan Sarkies - Heart Vs Reds
Best known for: being labelled "Australias David Beckham" in reference to his set piece taking ability, to which he scored 1 A-League goal from.

Last week's predictions
•     Ante Milicic is the preferred choice over John Kosmina as Heart's new coach.
•     Jerome Polenz is sent off for a tackle that isn't yellow card worthy as the karma bus hits.
•     Every club is linked to Tim Cahill after he declares interest in a guest stint over the MLS break.
•     Perth furious about playing in temperatures below 15 degrees in Perth.

Next week's predictions
•     Harry Kewell to finally return for Melbourne Heart scoring a Hat Trick and prompting the #Kewell4Rio hashtag
•     Adam Taggart to be the first to score Back-to-Back A-League Hat tricks.
•     Phil Moss to make keep his 100% winning record as a coach in tact.
