A late Rosie Sutton header gave Perth Glory a 1-0 win over Adelaide United at Percy Doyle Reserve today in a game that was littered with missed chances.
Both sides spurned great opportunities, particularly in the second half,
before Sutton nicked all three points in the 89th minute.
The first half started out very evenly with the teams trying to work themselves into the game, but as time went on it was the home side who dominated possession and territory.
The Lady Reds had the first half sight of goal inside the first minute but a poor first touch from skipper Kristy Moore allowed Glory keeper Chantelle Jones to smoother the ball.
Collette McCallum had the first effort at goal for Glory, a 25 yarder that went just over the crossbar, whole Shawn Billam tested Melissa Barbieri with another shot from outside the area.
Barbieri was complaining about a niggle in her leg before kick off and it was clearly troubling her throughout as she looked to play short kick outs at every opportunity.
Glory coach Jamie Harnwell was up off his seat a number of times in the first half after some questionable refereeing and his team started to show a similar fire in the last ten minutes as Rosie Sutton twice went close to finding the net.
The second half was a much more open affair and Glory twice came close to scoring when Christina Julien sliced wide from inside the area and Sasha Andrews had a header cleared off the line.
At the other end, Adelaide began to look dangerous on the break and Tian Powell spurned an excellent opportunity to silence the home crowd as she failed to hit the target when played through on goal.
Substitute Ella Mastrantonio tried her luck from distance but Barbieri was equal to the shot, before Andrews blazed wide from inside six yards.
Just when it looked like the spoils would be shared, Sutton got on the end of a looping right wing cross that eluded Barbieri to head home the winner.
