This Week in Australian Football: Round 10

Friday, December 12, 2014

Don't call it a comeback, we've been here for years. Just like Isaka Cernak, no one noticed that we weren't around last week. In any case, this is the news..

The Wanderers have been brainstorming ways to overturn their form slump. Not content with losing every game when taking the field, the boys have decided to try something different, choosing to not enter the field at all. Whether this tactic will work against Cruz Azul in the World Club Cup, winning being the only chance any of these players will ever get to play Real Madrid, only time will tell.

Brisbane Peugeot FC successful management of their club's affairs continues with news that club captain Matt Smith had quit the club for a move to Bangkok Glass. It appears that Smith was disappointed with a lack of 'transparency' as his could 'see through' the club's motives. In the end he made it 'clear' that he was sorry that he had 'shattered' the hopes of the supporters especially considering the teams already 'brittle' defence. Ultimately, he did not want to miss his 'window' of opportunity.

Melbourne Victory were happy to come through their game at North Sydney Oval unscathed after the clubs concerns before the game. In the end the only thing hard about the game for Victory was the surface.

Ange Postecoglou has named a 46 man provisional squad for the Asia Cup and is reportedly excited by the depth of the squad. Sure, naming every professional player Australia has ever produced in a squad could be one way to claim depth. Still, we get the feeling that Japan, Korea, Iran and hell even Palestine may not be needing a change of shorts at the prospect of Josh Risdon and about 15 other blokes who can't get a minute of game time at their respective clubs providing depth for the 'Roos at the Asian Cup.

Hats off to the Socceroos however who along with David Warner, Steve Smith and Michael Clarke have hit a ton this month with their effort in the FIFA Rankings. Timely.

Join us next week when we see if Melbourne City can beat the odds and do the unthinkable, getting back-to-back wins after taking on the Bye and we get an exclusive with Cristiano Ronaldo who admits it is his fault Melbourne Victory will not be playing Real Madrid at the MCG because he will boycott any situation that Kevin Muscat has a clear run at him.
