Edgeworth overcame an early dismissal signalling to the rest of the league that they intend to be serious contenders for the 2015 tittle. Ayden Brice was sent off in the first half for Edgeworth after the Eagles took the lead in the 33rd minute through Brenten Olazomer. Depsite being a player down the home team sealed the match with goals to Bren Hammel, Brody Taylor, and a second to Olazomer. To add insult to injury the Blues also lost a player in the rain soaked match with Matt Hull seeing red in the opening stages of the second half.

Jaffas and Jets played out the match of the round with the Jaffas coming from 1-0 down to start their season with a solid three point haul. The Jets were boosted by appearances from Newcastle Jets senior players Radovan Pavicevic and Michael Kantarovski. But their experience wasn’t enough and the youngsters went into the break 3-1 down with Kantarovski getting to only goal in the second half just 24 hours after making his first A-League appearance.

Rosebud and the Bears played out a nil-all draw despite both teams having many chances to break the deadlock. Ex-Jet Guy Bates was in-form for Adamstown and struck the woodwork three times while Weston’s were denied stealing the victory in the closing stages by a superb save from Adamstown stopper Scott Carter.

Magic Park
Two of the most touted title contended faced off in the opening weekend in a match that promised so much on paper but failed to deliver on the park. Both teams had limited chances in the first half due to some quality defending at both ends of the park and while the match opened up in the second half with some of the best chances falling to Magic’s Chris Berlin in the closing stages, neither he nor any of the Olympic attack could find a telling strike.

Maitland Magpies took to the pitch in the top-flight for the first time in 12 years with a trip to South Cardiff in the only Sunday match to feature goals. Maitland went into the break leading 2-0 thanks to a double from Joel Wood. Goals to Gunners Sean Clerke and Dan Johnson cancelled out Wood’s goals and set up for an entertaining ending in which both teams couldn’t seal the victory despite having multiple opportunities.
