FFA suing for defamation

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Football Federation Australia has moved swiftly to seek damages from Melbourne-based newspaper "The Age" after being cleared of all allegations on Sunday. In the Supreme Court of NSW today, the FFA commenced defamation proceedings against the media publication.

Having been found not guilty of misleading the Federal Government over the spending of money for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup bid, the FFA now seeks to recoup any loss the bid might incur as a result of the damaging reports.

“The articles contain serious defamatory allegations regarding the conduct of the Bid, including FFA’s accounting practices and its compliance with FIFA regulations and its Government Funding Agreement”, an FFA spokesman said.

“FFA completely rejects these serious allegations and is seeking damages."
