With all six games played, the Sydney Festival of Football is now complete. AEK Athens finished on top, and received their trophy after tonight's final match. All coaches have been satisfied with the festival in terms of their preparation for their respective leagues. Sydney FC has perhaps gained the most from the competition, gaining valuable minutes against quality opposition. Alex Brosque talked after the match about the game, the festival, and how excited he is about the opening clash against Melbourne Victory next week.
"Obviously results weren't the main focus for us, but to be ready for next week. In terms of opposition you really can't ask for more
"It was hard to play the sort of football we play through our season but I guess we won't be coming up against teams like Blackburn or Rangers of that sort of quality in the A-league, no disrespect but I mean Premier League and Scottish Premier League teams are obviously a lot better than A-league teams
Brosque scored three goals during the tournament, two against AEK Athens - albeit from the penalty spot and via a woeful goalkeeper error - and a third tonight. Last year he was more known for his assists over his goals, amounting 10 assists over the course of the season. For the 2010/2011 season Brosque knows the pressure is on him and others to score.
"Pre-season we've been doing a bit of finishing and working on things inside the box. We don't have too many strikers to speak of - losing Johnnie from last year is a big loss for us, he scored a lot of goals. So I think the pressure is a lot more on myself and Bridgey, and even Kofi
"It's been hard to think about [the start of the season] with the week we've just had. Playing against these teams has been unreal for us. I think our focus will turn from tomorrow onwards.
"While the past week's has been good, the entire focus of the past couple months has been next week. I think the excitement will start to creep in. It's been a fairly long pre-season for us and we're down to the business end. So yeah, we're excited".
