Wide-eyed Solorzano arrives at Roar

Saturday, July 31, 2010

22-year old Costa Rican Jean Carlo Solorzano arrived in Brisbane late Thursday night, and seems delighted to be given an opportunity to play in the A-League. The striker, who last season scored 8 goals in 16 appearances for his Costa Rican club, has not yet started training with the Roar, but met his new teammates yesterday at Ballymore Stadium.

“This is a dream opportunity for me." said Solorzano.

“Playing abroad is what I have wanted to do since I first started playing football.

“Just being here and playing with all these different players is a great opportunity and one I really want to make the most of.”

The young addition to the Brisbane Roar squad speaks no English, but expects to be able to let the football do the talking.

“Football is one language wherever you are in the world,” he said.

“When you are on the field, everyone adapts to each other and plays for the best of the team."

Solorzano's excitement for the commencement of the season is infectious. With the first round of matches only one week away the growing anticipation for the new Hyundai A-League season has reached new heights for the 2010/2011 version. With memberships arriving on the doorsteps of many fans over the next week, a weekend of family fan days in both Brisbane and Melbourne, and all clubs finalizing their playing rosters and starting 11's, the A-league season of football is truly upon us.
