Glory all the Way

Monday, July 19, 2010

The following article has been submitted by Carly Wood of Perth, Western Australia. It contains a wrap-up and thoughts on her beloved Perth Glory's latest friendly against Armadale SC. If you feel you have ideas which could make it onto ''The Football Sacks'' front page, do not hesitate to email us your thoughts (via contact us tab) and you never know your luck. Enjoy!!

In their third pre season hit out merely days after returning from a 12 day training camp in China, Perth Glory had a 2-1 victory over Football West Premier State League side Armadale SC.

Goals in the second half to Branko Jelic and Jamie Harnwell secured the win for Perth after Armadale took the lead in the 19th minute thanks to midfielder Jason Goodwin. A frustrated Glory side had a number of shots in the first half but couldn't get the ball past Aleks Vrteski, who was filling in as 'keeper for Armadale against his own club.

Their efforts finally came to fruition however when Perth equalised ten minutes into the second half. A Naum Sekulovski cross sent the ball straight towards Jelic, who headed it in past Vrteski. A few minutes later a low strike by James Robinson would have put Armadale back in front if not being ruled offside.

There were a number of chances for both sides to take the lead in the second stanza but nobody was able to put the ball away until the 80th minute when a Harnwell header from a free-kick put Perth in front for the first time. Another win for the Glory, but in fairness Armadale were unlucky not to equalise late on.

The two thousand odd fans who came out would not have left disappointed in what was a high tempo match from start to finish.

The next Glory pre season match will take place against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday, July 23.
