Peninsular Power 2-0 Capalaba
Peninsular Power continued their impressive recent form with a textbook victory over the unpredictable Capalaba Bulldogs.
Goals to prolific marksman Matthew Hornby and playmaker Warren Moon was all it took for the home side in a match where the away side never really threatened.
Both Sides have testing match-ups in Round 22 with fourth placed Power traveling to top side Wolves FC, while Capalaba will have a testing encounter at home against a Redlands side fighting for finals survival.
Redlands 3-0 Pine Hills
Redlands claimed an easy three points against competition whipping boys Pine Hills at home with a 3-0 victory that keeps their finals aspirations alive.
The match was all wrapped up by half time with Redlands taking a 2-0 lead into the break following goals to Russell Woodruffe in the third minute and Rhys Meredith in the 39th.
Nzube Okafor cemented the result late in the match to take Redlands to three goals and move his side into ninth position on the table, only one point shy of sixth placed Capalaba.
Redlands will have a chance to break into the top six next week as the take on Capalaba away from home however will need to find a level of consistency that has eluded them for the majority of the season.
North Pine 0 – 2 Eastern Suburbs
A Xavier Lopez double ten minutes from time gave Eastern Suburbs a top six lifeline and plunged North Pine into a four way battle for sixth position with only five rounds remaining.
North Pine has struggled to find any real consistency this season and will be disappointed with the result after controlling much of the match.
North Pine will have a chance to make up for their recent slip ups when they face the bottom placed Pine Hills while Eastern Suburbs take on other relegation battlers Mt Gravatt.
Taringa Rovers 0-1 Brisbane City
Brisbane City will be counting their lucky stars after stealing a plucky 1-0 victory against Taringa Rovers away from home in a match that should’ve ended in a 0-0 draw.
Locked in midfield with neither side truly threatening, City were given a golden goose egg when Taringa goalkeeper Nicholas Tubbs’ clearance ricocheted off one of his defenders and into the back of the net for an unexpected 1-0 lead for the away side.
Taringa had a number of chances to equalise late on however Azzurri keeper Aurelian Berson was too good and ensured he maintained a clean sheet and all three points for Brisbane City.
Mt Gravatt 1- 5 Rochdale
Second placed Rochedale Rovers flexed their muscle against second from bottom Mt Gravatt in a match that was over before it even began.
Scoring inside the opening seconds of the match through Terry Hughes for a 1-0 lead, Rochedale completely dominated their opponents hitting the back of the net a further four times through Patrick Cronin, Cody Lovell, Keenan Duimpies and Tim Smits before the end of the match.
Mt Gravatt stole a late consolation goal in the final minute of the match however they had been well and truly outplayed by their far superior opposition.
Olympic FC 3- 1 Wolves FC
Olympic FC breathed life into the Brisbane Premier League with a rare victory over competition high flyers Wolves FC, outscoring their more favoured opponents three goals to one.
A first half onslaught from the home side saw a shocked Wolves FC concede two early goals to Michael Butters and Evan Papadopoulos that saw Olympic go into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Papadopoulos gave his side a 3-0 lead only minutes into the second half when he scored his second for the match and all but tied up the result for third placed Olympic FC.
Wolves managed to find the back of the net in the 70th minute through the prolific Steffen Vroom but it was too little to late as the boys from Wynnum fell to only their second defeat for the season.
While the loss has little influence on Wolves' final placing in the competition after already wrapping up the Premiership, it may prove to be a mental scar if the two sides face off in the finals.
