Fury keep Sydney as company in the cellar

Sydney FC have failed to break their win less streak this year with a 1 all draw against North Queensland Fury in front of a modest crowd at the SFS last night.

Sydney, coming off a hard fought draw with the Gold Coast, were the animators in the early exchanges, holding the majority of possession in the first half as the travel weary Fury tried to keep pace.

Chances were on offer for the Sydney strikers, but it was clear that this is a side lacking the confidence to turn half chances into goals. Their ability to move the ball through the midfield was only thwarted by their inconsistency and heavy feet around goal.

Mark Bridge's drive in the 33rd minute was further evidence that things haven't been going Sydney's way with the ball rebounding off the woodwork. However, they continued to pin the Fury in their own half but struggled to finish off several half chances.

Shortly after, Bridge crossed the ball to Shannon Cole as he then calmly guided the ball over the head of Fury keeper, Justin Pasfield.

Cole's celebration, or lack thereof, was further proof that this Sydney team is becoming frustrated with their slow start to the season.

Puddles began to appear on the pitch as rain poured down. The small crowd retreated for cover as the bottom of the table chess match continued below.

Both teams returned from the break in fresh kit, however, Sydney looked the fresher as Alex Brosque continued to trouble the Fury defence.

With Socceroos coach Holger Osieck watching from the sideline, Brosque was the aggressor forcing a clever save from Pasfield.

However, Sydney continued to provide the Fury with opportunities as they became too careless with their possession.

David Williams capitalised on a Sydney brain fade and nailed a stunning strike from 25 metres out with only 14 minutes left on the clock.

Sydney rallied but it was clear the Fury now had a spring in their step after coach, Franz Straka, made some tactical substitutions late in the second half which breathed life into the Fury attack.

Sydney had a late effort from Terry McFlynn come ever so close only to be denied by centimetres as the ball rebounded off the crossbar and bounced on the line.

Unfortunately for Sydney, the ball didn't completely cross the line and they were left ruing another missed opportunity, and another week without a victory.

Both teams still remain bolted to the bottom of the A-league ladder, with the finals for both sides looking unlikely.

For Vitezslav Lavicka's men, time is running out, whilst Franz Straka's young troops return to Townsville with something to show for their troubles.

Sydney now face the top of the table Adelaide in what is uncharted territory for the A-league glamour club.
