TFS Team of the Week: Round Five

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

The TFS Team of the Week has rightly gone up a notch in street cred lately after the FFA announced Chris Payne as this seasons inaugural Young Player of the Month recipient a matter of days after appearing in our squad. Coincidence? We at the Sack think not!

GK: -----------------------------Michael Theoklitos------------------------------
DF: Ben Sigmund --- Ljubo Milicevic --- Matt Smith --- Shane Stefanutto
MF: Nick Kalmar --- Mathew Leckie --- Rostyn Griffiths --- Paul Reid
FW: ----------------- Sergio van Dijk --- Mile Sterjovski -------------------------

This round, the TFS Team of the Week managed to score 70% of all the goals in the five A-League matches! With the previously prolific Sergio Van Dijk leading the way with two goals, breaking his league duck for Adelaide United along the way with a classic free kick he was known for at Brisbane Roar. Plus with current leader of the Golden Boot standings Mile Sterjovski adding another goal to his tally our forward line would be the envy of any Australian club.

Our midfield this week is made of very attacking quality, including two members who our very own Scott Condon has singled out for future Socceroo representation (read all about that here) in Nick Kalmar and Mathew Leckie, who both managed to get on the score sheet in victories for their respective clubs. Fellow Adelaide midfielder Paul Reid rounds out the Red’s three representatives this week with a solid dominant display.

Another Club who has three members this week is once again the Brisbane Roar, who are making a habit of featuring in our defence. Shane Stefanutto who apparently can do no wrong is joined by teammates Matt Smith for his first appearance and goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos who once again fought off a strong showing by Clint Bolton who just can’t seem to catch a break in regards to the TFS Team of the Week.

Ljubo Milicevic makes a maiden appearance for a Newcastle Jets player after a rough week for the club playing solid enough in the backs but making most of his impact going forward (including an ultimately failed, but highly entertaining foray into the oppositions box). And goal scorer Ben Sigmund can put aside the sorrows of losing for his Wellington Phoenix by knowing that he has gained the ultimate honour in making our side.
