'Casting A Spell

Wednesday, September 08, 2010

I was fortunate enough over the last week to be invited onto a couple of podcasts, to offer some words on the Premier League, the transfer window and Bob Bradley, among other things. I also offered some unsolicited information on Scandinavian football, which I like very much (although I'd struggle to explain to you why this is).

And crikey, podcasting is difficult. There are a couple of fine balances to be struck, namely: 1) trying to offer some useful information and insight without crow-barring everything you've written down in your notes into the recording; and 2) attempting to sound like a well-versed and knowledgable soccerista while also striking a conversational tone that makes people want to keep listening.

This being the breaking of my pod-ginity I suspect I failed emphatically on both counts, and injected a good dose of Sounding-Like-A-Douchebag into the bargain. But it did make me appreciate that the relaxed, flowing sound of the best podcasts takes a lot of practice.

Oh, and my microphone doesn't actually look like that, but every time I tried to accurately represent it I invariably ended up with something resembling a sort of robotic desktop phallus.
