Canberra have their sights firmly on the chocolates!!

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Canberra United has released most of their line-up for this year’s W-League Competition. If you were a betting person, they look the goods.

Canberra retain the services of both co-captains and current Matildas Lydia Williams as goalkeeper and rampaging centre-back Ellie Brush. Australian representatives also retained include Matilda Grace Gill, U17 midfielder Kahlia Hogg, Emily Van Egmond, the tough schoolgirl representative Cian Maciejewski and international teammate Jennifer Bisset. Other notable's include the Sykes twins Ashleigh (Matilda) and Nicole (Young Matilda), dual international Ellyse Perry as well as the flamboyant Shu O Tseng, a Chinese Taipei international.

Canberra United will be boosted by the return from injury of Matilda Caitlin Munoz, the return of Matilda Sally Shipard, and Matilda Leah Blayney who is back from the USA. United have also recruited three new signings from the now defunct Central Coast Mariners; former captain and defender Caitlin Cooper, Lyndsay Glohe and last year’s Golden Boot Michelle Heyman, all of whom are Matildas.

On the season's recruitment, Coach Ray Junna stated “the quality of the signings we have been able to make have given us excellent depth and we can look forward to a promising season ahead”. I think we could all agree on that. As long as the experienced and well credited coach Ray Junna can gel all these great players together, they should provide some entertaining footy this season.

Best of luck Canberra United!
