Unfortunately for Clive Palmer, Gold Coast fans and A-league supporters in general, the fixture between the Central Coast Mariners and Gold Coast United was abandoned due to unplayable conditions.
What was meant to be a passing shower ended up being a steady and consistent downpour that gave referee Chris Beath no other choice but to call the game off after only 20 minutes.
The only highlight of the match was a missed penalty by Adam Kwasnik, which was also clearly affected by the rain-drenched pitch.
Gold Coast fans were given free entry from owner Clive Palmer as a tribute to the work done by Frank Lowy for Australia's World Cup bid.
However, mother nature put an end to the festivities leaving fans confused and disgruntled as many were still arriving.
The game is due to be rescheduled.
