Power put four past ill-disciplined Olympic FC

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Peninsular Power continued their surge up the Brisbane Premier League ladder with a comprehensive 4-0 demolition of second placed Olympic FC at AJ Kelly Field on Saturday.

The win was Power’s third on the trot in a match that finished in controversy after referee Adam Kersey sent off three Olympic players in the space of three minutes late in the second half.

Power took the game to their more fancied opponents early on and was rewarded when Pablo Aviles set up youngster Reagan Alder with some deft passing to give the home side a 1-0 lead after only seven minutes.

Olympic FC looked to fight their way back into the match and had two great chances off Hyuksu Seo free kicks, however on both occasions the Olympic strikers could only head the ball wide.

The home side was lucky to go into the break with their lead intact when Olympic defender Blake Charity volleyed wide of an open net right on the half time whistle.

Olympic looked to race out of the blocks early in the second half and would’ve capitalised in the 50th minute if it wasn’t for a bad finish from striker Evan Papadopoulos, hitting the post after winger Sungyun Park found him in open space with a perfect cross.

While Olympic had the majority of scoring opportunities, it was Peninsular Power who was next to score taking a 2-0 lead courtesy of an amazing curling free kick from Warren Moon that was placed perfectly in the top corner from 30 yards out.

Power took their game to another level after the addition of substitute striker Matthew Hornby in the 60th minute, scoring only minutes after coming on with a well placed volley past the out stretched arms of Olympic keeper Shannon Lancini to make the score 3-0.

The night could only get worse for Olympic FC, going down to eight players when Charity, Seo and Ibikay Gurbuz were all red carded for separate back play incidents in the 70th minute.

Power took advantage of their extra three players to full effect with Hornby scoring his second and Peninsular Powers fourth goal in the 75th minute when he poked home from close range after a messy scramble in the box.

Olympic had one final chance late in the match however Power goalkeeper Marko Radovanovic maintained his clean sheet with the home side claiming all three points with a 4-0 victory.

Peninsular power will look to continue their run of wins next week when they take on Souths United at home, while Olympic face off against Redlands at Goodwin park.

Peninsular Power: 4 (Alder 7’, Moon 53’, Hornby 69’, 75’)
